CHRIS EVANS vs. PSYKLE vs. RICKY SOARING EAGLE – OOWF Intercontinental Title Triple Threat Match
Ricky Soaring Eagle is the first challenger out. He’s in his usual jovial mood and glares at the booing fans, barely holding himself back from getting into altercations with the more vocal ones. Psykle is next, and receives a very positive reaction from the crowd. The big man acknowledges the cheers, but looks very intent on tonight’s opportunity. Soaring Eagle rounds on Psykle as soon as he steps in the ring, and has some heated words for his fellow challenger. Psykle looks at Soaring Eagle quizzically for a moment, and then shrugs and starts to warm up as the champion’s music hits. OOWF Intercontinental Champion Chris Evans steps onto the stage to a rain of boos. He stops at the top of the ramp and looks around at the crowd, drinking it in. Evans saunters to ringside and points at his challengers, holding his championship high. Evans climbs onto the apron and orders referee Davis Hightower to keep Psykle and Soaring Eagle back as he steps into the ring. Evans poses on the turnbuckles with his title, and then hands it to the referee, who displays it to the crowd. Hightower calls all three men to the middle of the ring, gives them their instructions, and calls for the bell.
We start with a three-way standoff, with all three men exchanging words. Evans hauls off and slugs Psykle, and then dodges the return shot, causing Psykle to hit Soaring Eagle. Soaring Eagle launches himself at the big man, tackling him to the mat. As they exchange punches, Evans strolls over to the corner and hops onto the top turnbuckle to watch the show.
Psykle and Soaring Eagle roll across the mat. Soaring Eagle ends up on top and hammers him with forearms. Psykle throws him off and rolls to his feet. Soaring Eagle is up as well and surges forward - right into a haymaker. Soaring Eagle staggers back, and Psykle hits an inverted atomic drop and levels him with a clothesline. Psykle stomps him into the mat, and then hauls him up and hits a vertical suplex. Psykle floats over into a cover - and Evans hits a diving elbow to break it up. Evans slides out to the floor, and Psykle follows him out. Psykle grabs Evans and gets in a few shots, until Soaring Eagle leaps off the apron and hits him with a forearm to the back of the head. Soaring Eagle and Evans stuff Psykle back into the ring, and then Soaring Eagle turns and throws a punch at Evans . Evans ducks it and hits a lungblower, and slides into the ring. Evans goes to the opposite ropes and dropkicks Psykle in the head. He springs off the middle rope and hits a Lionsault, but Soaring Eagle dives on him to break up the pin attempt.
Soaring Eagle drags Evans up and shoves him into the corner. He works him over with forearms and drives a series of shoulders into the champion’s midsection. He lifts Evans onto the top turnbuckle and climbs onto the second rope. He hooks the champion for a DDT, but Psykle gets underneath him and lifts him up in a power bomb position. Soaring Eagle starts throwing punches to block the move, and Evans clears his head and leaps, pegging Psykle in the head with a dropkick and causing him to complete the power bomb. Evans kicks Psykle out of the way and covers Soaring Eagle, but Psykle shoves him off before he can get the three. Evans rolls to his feet and punts Psykle in the head, and then drives a series of elbows into his skull. Soaring Eagle regains his feet, so Evans nails him with a super kick that knocks him into the ropes. He turns back to Psykle with some kicks, stands him up with a European uppercut, and nails a Codebreaker. He tries to transition into the Gogoplata, but Psykle rolls free.
Evans grabs Psykle as he gets up and winds his arm. As he goes for a second revolution, Soaring Eagle slams into them both with a double clothesline. Soaring Eagle shoves the champion into the corner and pummels him with punches. He sends Evans across the ring and follows him with a running elbow. Soaring Eagle bounces out of the corner, turns, and catches Evans, planting him with a belly-to-belly suplex. Before he can hook the leg, Psykle drags him off. Psykle blocks a punch from Soaring Eagle and buries a knee in his stomach. He hits Soaring Eagle with a gut-wrench backbreaker and then sits him up and hits a series of knees to the back. Psykle hauls Soaring Eagle up into a full nelson, and plants him with a full nelson bomb. Psykle rolls to his feet - and eats a super kick from the champion. Psykle is knocked off-balance, and Evans gets a running start and hits a high knee that knocks the big man through the ropes to the floor. Evans grabs Soaring Eagle’s legs and ties him into the Ode to Canada. Hightower checks, but Soaring Eagle has no intention of giving up. He tries to crawl for the ropes, but Evans has the hold cinched in deep. We’ll never know who’d have one that battle of wills, as Psykle puts an end to it with a big boot to Evans’ head.
Psykle drags the champion to his feet and backs him to the ropes. He sends him across the ring and hits a high backdrop. Psykle drops onto Evans with a head butt and then drags him to his feet. He sets Evans up for a power bomb, but Evans drops to his knees to block. Psykle pummels him with forearms, but Evans responds with a brutal low blow. Psykle staggers back, and Evans goes to the ropes. He tries for a bulldog, but Psykle catches him and reverses into a side slam. He hooks the leg, but Soaring Eagle manages to break it up. Soaring Eagle drags Psykle up and shoves him into the corner. He grabs Evans and shoves him into the opposite corner. Soaring Eagle gets a running start and clotheslines Psykle in the corner, and then turns and does the same to Evans. It works out pretty well, so he does another lap. He tries for a third, but this time Evans gets his feet up. Instead of running into them, Soaring Eagle grabs his feet and yanks him into a power bomb. He turns it into a pinfall, but Psykle manages to recover enough to stumble over and break it up.
Psykle drags Soaring Eagle up into a headlock, but Soaring Eagle elbows free. Soaring Eagle pulls Psykle’s head across his shoulder and drops, hitting him with an inverted stunner. Soaring Eagle hits a fist drop, and then ties up Psykle’s legs and rolls him over into the Cactus Thorn. He cinches it in, and Psykle’s not going anywhere. Hightower checks, but Psykle refuses to submit. Soaring Eagle doesn’t think much of that choice and lets out a roar as he pulls back harder. Evans is up and clubs him in the head to break the hold. Evan drags Soaring Eagle to his feet and sends him to the ropes. He pegs him with a dropkick and then sits him up and plants a knee in his back, prying back on his arms. Soaring Eagle works his way to his feet and breaks free. Soaring Eagle ducks a forearm and lifts Evans in a gorilla press and slams him to the mat. He completes his Warrior impersonation by going to the ropes and hitting a splash. He hooks the leg, but Evans manages to kick out just in time.
Soaring Eagle mounts Evans and pummels him with forearms until Hightower is forced to step in. He ignores the count, but backs off once the disqualification warnings start. He waits for Evans to get up, and scoops him up and hits the Return to Earth. He covers, but Psykle staggers over and drags him off. Psykle pulls Soaring Eagle to his feet, and eats an elbow for his trouble. Soaring Eagle attacks with forearms and chops, and then sends Psykle across the ring. He buries a knee in Psykle’s stomach and hooks him for a DDT, but Psykle grabs him and reverses into a northern lights suplex. He bridges, but only gets two. Psykle drags Soaring Eagle up and shoves him into the corner. He hammers on him with punches. Evans staggers to his feet and grabs Psykle from behind, pinning his arms. Soaring Eagle hops to the second ropes and leaps. Psykle slips out of the way and Soaring Eagle levels Evans. Psykle grabs Soaring Eagle as he gets up and sets him on the top rope. He hooks Soaring Eagle’s head and hits the Psycho Driver - right onto Evans! Psykle pitches Evans out of the ring and dives onto Soaring Eagle, hooking both legs hard. Hightower slide into position and counts One…Two…Three!
WINNER and NEW OOWF Intercontinental Champion, in 22:32, Psykle!
STAN FULTON vs. GHOSTHEAD – OOWF World Heavyweight Title Match
Ghosthead walks to the ring first, not acknowledging the crowd and takes up his customary position perched on top of the turnbuckle to the far right hand of the hard camera position, his eyes fixed on the entranceway. “Crusher” hits and Stan Fulton makes his way to the ring with the OOWF World Heavyweight title belt over his shoulder. Seeing Ghosthead perched on the turnbuckle, Fulton hits the other three corners, standing on the second rope and taunting the Swan Island crowd. When he comes to Ghosthead’s corner he pushes the title into Jared’s face and shouts at him, but Ghosthead doesn’t react.
The referee urges Fulton back into the centre of the ring and motions for Ghosthead to join in the middle while we get some super-special ring announcements. The referee shows the title to both men and goes over the rules with Ghosthead looking straight at Fulton with an eerie focus while Fulton grins broadly. The referee hands the belt out of the ring and calls for the bell to start the match. Ghosthead and Fulton circle for a few seconds and Fulton offers the hand for the test of strength tieup. Ghosthead accepts and they do the strength spot, with Fulton seemingly getting the better of it pushing Ghosthead down to one knee, but Ghosthead turns that into a Fireman’s Carry and dumps Fulton on his back. Fulton laughs as he rolls through and offers the test of strength again. Ghosthead accepts and this time round it’s a harder fought thing, with Fulton going through through the range from arrogance, to concern to outright shock as Ghosthead gradually gets the better of it and is close to forcing him down.
Stan wasn’t having any of that and stamped on Ghosthead’s lead foot and used the distraction to pull him close for a massive headbutt which busts Ghost open hardway (looking very impressive against the white dreads.) Ghosthead visibly recoils, but Fulton still has a hold of his hands and pulls him in for a ring shaking belly-to-back suplex.
Fulton makes a negligent cover, but makes a great show of lifting Ghosthead up at 1 and a half. He lifts Ghost to his feet and after softening him up with a few punches, whips him to the ropes and nails another ring shuddering powerslam. Fulton stands up and lifts, then splits Ghosthead’s legs and nails the Stump Shot heabutt to the groin of his downed opponent. Fulton drags Ghosthead to his feet again and Ghost tries to fight back but Fulton shuts that down with another headbutt and a quick thumb to the eye. Ghosthead staggers back and Fulton nails a spinning clothesline to send Ghosthead back down to the mat.
Fulton makes the ‘it’s over’ sign and ascends to the second turnbuckle and takes flight for the The Crusher, but NO! Ghosthead rolls away and Fulton bounces face-first off the mat. Ghosthead kips up to his feet and as Fulton gets up he eats a nasty dropkick to the face. Fulton staggers back, as much shocked as hurt and Ghost presses him into the ropes and whips him across the ring, nailing a HUGE spinebuster when Fulton comes back. The crowd are going nuts for the comeback and Ghosthead climbs the turnbuckle and looks to be going for a Spectre’s Fall, but Fulton has the presence of mind to roll out of the ring. Fulton clears the cobwebs on the outside and goes towards the timekeeper and demands his belt as Ghosthead sprints along the top rope and dives towards Fulton, who drags the timekeeper into the way and escapes the bulk of the blow. The referee is stunned in the ring and seems to have forgotten any concept of counting the men out as Fulton waits for Ghosthead to get up from the floor. Fulton levels Ghosthead with a clothesline, then drags him by the head and whips him hard into the ring post before following up with a running Drop Line that crushes Ghost between the turnbuckle and Fulton’s onrushing bulk. Ghosthead’s eyes roll up in his head as Fulton lets him drop to the floor with casual disdain. Fulton takes his time, waiting for Ghost to get up of his own accord before grabbing him and making to roll him back into the ring.
Ghosthead has other ideas and kicks Fulton in the gut before grabbing a flailing arm and twisting it into an armlock. Ghosthead walks up the ring steps with Fulton in the armlock and walks across the apron before dropping a nasty forearm on Fulton, who staggers back. Ghosthead keeps attacking Fulton’s arm on the outside for a bit and then rolls the champion back into the ring. Ghosthead climbs the turnbuckle and as Fulton gets to his feet, clearly favouring his arm, Ghosthead dives off the top and nails a beautiful reverse DDT, sending the champ face first into the mat.
Ghosthead climbs the ropes again and ropewalks out to the middle of the ropes and looks to be trying the super-special Spectre’s Fall, but Matt Folz appears out of the crowd and shouts at him. Ghost is distracted for a second, allowing Fulton to charge the ropes and send Ghost tumbling into the Honduran announce table. Fulton orders the referee to count him out, but the ref takes a few seconds to tell Folz to get away from ringside before he starts counting. Ghost emerges from the rubble of the table and slides back into the ring at 8 ½ and Fulton meets him with a flurry of boots before dragging him to his feet and whipping him to the corner before landing a running clothesline and a series of nasty elbows to the face (using his good arm of course.) Fulton gets a head of steam up and nails another Drop Line before following up with a powerslam as Ghost staggers out of the corner… or so it seems as Ghost actually wraps his legs around Fulton’s head and locks in the Phantasmagoria Triangle Choke. Fulton seems to be fading fast but stays on his feet while looking close to tapping two or three times. After holding on for what seems an age, Fulton roars, lifts himself and Ghosthead up and lands a modified Backcut Slam on Ghost for the 1-2-3, with Ghosthead kicking out just after the 3.
WINNER via pin-fall in 23:18 and STILL OOWF Heavyweight Champion – Stan “the Crusher” Fulton
Fulton rolls out of the ring, demands his belt and raises it high while cradling his injured arm as the rest of the New Guard help him to the back
LD WILLIAMS vs. DANNY TAYLOR – OOWF Invitational Finals
This should be an amazing match up. Two solid in ring performers. In one corner, LD Williams is a seasoned veteran, and by nearly everyone's estimation a future Hall of Famer, and one of the best pure wrestlers ever in the OOWF. In the other is "Dynamite" Danny Taylor, not exactly rookie, but not a veteran either, hitting the stride of his career. He had a great run in the Tag Team Division. Both men would like a win here, not just for pride's sake, but also to get a piece of the New Guard. The wrestlers are announced, make their entrances, shake hands and Hightower calls for the bell.
Ding. Ding.
The crowd is hot for this match as both men are fan favorites. They grin at each other, as there's probably a bit of mutual respect going on here as well. Finally, after milking the crowd for a bit, they two men lock up. Crowd settles down a bit as the two men test each other's strength and stability in the mutual shoving around the ring. This lasts for a bit until they disengage at about the same time, and eye each other. The crowd loves it, but this time showmanship is over and when they lock up again, it's for real. Some more testing commences and then finally LD gets the upper hand first. He's shorter, so he uses that lower center of gravity to hip toss Danny over. He looks like he wants to go for a submission move early, but Danny maneuvers away and to his feet quickly, following up with an almost unexpected clothesline to LD. LD goes down, be he too is back up before Danny can capitalize, and counters Danny's approach with a boot to the gut, followed by a downward elbow to Danny's back. Danny is down on one knee here, and LD runs the ropes coming out with a bulldog, taking Danny to the mat. He goes for the early pin this time, but no dice, as Danny is out of the pin before the referee can even get into position for the count.
LD steps back to rethink things, giving Danny time to stand. Danny rushes ahead, and while LD does see him coming, he underestimates Danny's speed. Danny crushes LD into the corner with a series of shoulder blocks, and then whips him back out to the far corner, following him in for a big splash against the ring post. LD crumples a bit, and Danny takes his opportunity, getting him over quick into a snap suplex. He makes the pin, but only gets a one count, as LD gets his shoulder up. Danny grabs LD around the chin and pulls up and we get a reverse bear hug/modified sleeper hold that given Danny's size, really does look like something that could actually do some damage. He's got LD's left arm up by his neck and is really putting the squeeze on him. The referee checks LD's breathing periodically. He goes to check on LD's arm, as he looks like he might be fading, but no, none of that one-two-thr--OMG he's coming back for LD. On the first check of LD's right hand, LD shoos the referee away. He struggles against the big arm around his neck, but that's not working. Danny has positioned himself out of range for a right elbow to the ribs. What is a wily veteran like LD to do?
LD reaches back across Danny's face, avoiding the eyes, and grabs hold of Danny's chin and begins to pull to the right, twisting his neck. Danny resists for a bit at first, but the combination of turning the neck and trying to hold on tight to LD is not a good one. LD twists as hard as he can, and eventually, Danny has to release, giving LD enough space to pull his arm out. He pushes Danny away from him, and while Danny is seated, LD gets to his feet slowly and hits a short range missile drop kick, knocking him over. LD takes the opportunity to shake some blood back into his arm and clear his head, but Danny doesn't give him much time before he's back in the hunt again.
Danny drives him back to the ropes with some big-man chops, whips him across the ring, and catches him on the rebound with a German suplex. Danny goes for the pin, one, two...NO! LD kicks out at two. Danny is frustrated, but doesn't let up, "helping" LD to his feet. He softens him up some more with a few chops but LD fights back with a couple of forearms. LD sees an opening and snapmares Danny over, then lifts him up to hit one...then two...then THREE German suplexes. He floats over on the last one, one...two...NO! Danny gets his shoulder up! Both LD and Danny get to their feet, and while they're both tired, neither man is backing down. A few hockey punches are exchanged, and Danny tries to whip LD into the corner. LD springs up to the second ropes and launches himself out for a spring board crossbody, but Danny is able to counter, launching LD up and over with a release T-Bone Suplex. Danny makes the cover and one...two...NO! LD kicks out. Back to their feet and another exchange of punches and forearms and what not breaks out. LD gets some separation, kicks Danny in the gut, and sets up the Canadian Destroyer. But Danny's a big guy, and when LD leaps, Danny doesn't go anywhere, and reverses into a back drop. Danny makes the pin, one...two...NO! LD gets another shoulder up, and the two men separate again, sucking wind as they get to their feet. A few more exchanges of punches, a bit more rope work as they each try to look for the opening, but hide their own openings. Danny kicks LD in the stomach to set up the Dynamite Drop, but when Danny gets the arms hooked, LD spins and drops down with an Unprettier (or whatever Christian ended up calling it). He gets Danny to his feet, another kick to the stomach and locks him in....CANADIAN DESTROYER! This has to be it...One...two....THREE!!!
WINNER in 47:14 – LD Williams
After the match, LD and Danny are both laying on the mat, exhausted and slowly get to their feet. They look at each other and do the Handshake of Mutual Respect, and Danny raises LD's arm. The crowd loves it and cheers as both men go to the back.
