OOWF Midweek Mayhem (October 10th, 2012)
Live from Reykjavik, Iceland
Russ: Good evening and welcome to Midweek Mayhem. This week, the annual Tag Team Invitational Tournament. This year 12 teams will compete for the coveted Tournament prize. A unique first round, four sudden death three way dance contests. The team that is pinned is eliminated, so tonight four teams will be eliminated from the tournament, with the two other teams advancing and facing a team from another matchup next week. As always I'm joined by former ECW Champion Razz.
Razz: Russ, this weeks competition will be crazy off da hook.
Russ: Up first, a storied team from the OOWF's past returns in the Dragons, a pair fo Grand Slam Champions in LD Williams and Stank, and the unlikely combination of Kate Bannister and Mai Muyo
Razz: You have to give the edge to the two long time teams. The Dragons are former OOWF Tag Team Champions, LD and Stank have been tag team champions, although not with each other, and this will be the first time for Kate Bannister and Mai Muyo to compete as partners.
Russ: Great points, Razz, but don't discount the veteran, schooled by Wyatt Cox, she's double tough, and never discount Mai Muyo. Let's go to the ring.
TAG TEAM INVITATIONAL ROUND 1LD Williams & Stank vs The Dragons Vs. Kate Bannister and Mai Muyo Forcible Entries “No Chance in Hell” brings the legendary Dragons, BlackDragon and SoulDragon to the ring. The Dragons are former Tag Team Champions, and Blackdragon is a former Intercontinental and Onslaught champion.
Hero by Skillet brings a very focused Mai Muyo and Kate Bannister to the ring. This is Bannister's first televised match in over 25 years, retiring after a broken wrist at the hands of Nancy Neil. The 6-2 225 pound Bannister is filling the huge shoes of Mai's former partner, who was fired at Hell On Earth.
Nonpoint's “Skin” brings a team of Grand Slam Champions to the ring in LD Williams and Stank. The friends are all business as they come out to the ring, heavy favorites in this match.
The two team occupy three corners, two members of opposing teams in at any time. It looks like Kate Bannister is stepping up to start, while LD and Stank opt to look at their opponents for a while. SoulDragon starts for the Dragons.
Lockup in the center of the ring, Kate grabs SD into a headlock. SoulDragon pushes them into the ropes, lounches Kate across the ring and beals her across the ring. Kate gets up and shakes it off, then they lock up again. Kate again goes for the headlock, SD tries a repeat but Kate reverses it, sending SD into the ropes and grabs SD into a Scoop Powerslam. Kate hooks the near leg but only gets a one count. Kate reaches over and tags Mai Muyo then grabs SD's arm. Mai leaps to the top rope and springboards off the rope onto SD's shoulder. Mai ties up SD with an armbar, but SD stands up Mai and whips her into the ropes. He tries to arm drag Mai but Mai reverses and drops SD with an arm drag of her own. Mai tags Kate in who climbs to the top rope and launches a knee into SD's shoulder. The big woman tries to lift SD up for a Flying Hammerlock, but SD gets to the nearest corner and tags in LD Williams. Kate backs up and tags in BlackDragon.
LD goes after BlackDragon with a fury. These two had a storied history in the OOWF. In fact it was a four way dance between Blackdragon, LD Williams, Mark Vander and Attitude Adjuster that led to Blackdragon winning an Intercontinental Title shot and winning the Intercontinental Championship. These two are going to Fist City with strikes and blows and chops galore. LD gets the upper hand but a leg sweep by BD has him looking for a sharpshooter, but LD counters with what looks like an attempt at an STF, but BD gets to the ropes. LD Stomps away at BD during the break but he fights his way up and to the corner where he sends LD to the ropes and catches him with a Hot Shot. BD covers for a count of two only. BD follows with a vertical suplex and a belly to belly and goes for the cover but LD is just too close to the ropes. BD picks up LD for another belly to belly suplex but LD fights out of it and hits BD with a DDT. He then turns to his own corner and tags in Stank!
BD's night just took a turn for the worse as Stank rolls over BD with the usual assortment of strikes and chops, backing BD into the corner and picking him up for an Oklahoma Slam! SD tries to run in but Kate Bannister cuts him off at the pass as Stank hauls BD up for a STANK-U! Stank then locks on CATCH-22 as LD cuts off a confused Mai Muyo from interfering and BlackDragon has no choice but to tap out.
WINNER – Stank and LD Williams – The Dragons are eliminated!
Mai Muyo is upset and angry about the outcome until LD Williams explains that they are still in the tournament. It takes both Stank, Kate, and the referee to explain to Mai that the team that is pinned is eliminated. Mai suddenly becomes her old self, happily hugging everyone in the ring and shouting “We didn't lose! We're still in it, Stan! Yay!” She jups up in Kate's arms, and hugs her. Kate whispers a couple of words in her ears and she jumps down, Kate exits the ring, and Mai jumps on top of Kate's shoulders and rides back to the dressing room. Stank and LD shake hands with the Dragons, who are watching the proceedings and shaking their heads, most likely glad they stepped away from the OOWF when the did..
Razz: What an upset, Russ. The veteran tag team eliminated by LD and Stank
Russ: Well no doubt the Dragons are double tough, but LD and Stank were just too much tonight.
Razz: Did you notice how well Kate Bannister and Mai Muyo performed? Classic old school team work.
Russ: They did, targeting a body part and working it to try to get to one of Bannister's submission holds, the Flying Hamerlock or the Crossface Chickenwing. They just never got that far as LD and Stank cleaned house.
Razz: Up next, Russ, one great tag team and two odd couples.
Russ: The Darling Twins will face off against Danny Taylor and the Kai and Ricky Soaring Eagle and Comrade Sharkoff.
Razz: You know there's no love lost between Danny Taylor and the Kai, and Ricky Soaring Eagle can't seem to get along with anyone.
Russ: This one promises to be a slobberknocker, let's go to the ring.
The Darlings Twins vs. Danny Taylor and The Kai vs Ricky Soaring Eagle and Comrade Sharkoff Iron Maiden's “Run to the Hills” brings out the unlikely team of Ricky Soaring Eagle and Comrade Sharkoff. The two bicker their way down to ringside, with Sharkoff threatening to use the chain on Ricky, and Ricky brandishing the tire iron to use against the Comrade. Referee Davis Hightower demands that both surrender their weapons to him or be disqualified. They reluctantly hand them over.
POD's Here comes the Boom (not related to that stupid looking Kevin James movie) brings out the Intercontinental Champion Danny Taylor and The Kai. They both smile and play to the fans.
“Sail” brings out Alexander and Alexis Darling. The twins have been on a roll as a team, coming out on top in a month-long battle with Power and Glory.
The trash talking between competitors has started in the ring and...who gave Sharkoff a microphone?
CS:
Is travesty. Now Comrade has to fight woman in ring. In Russia women like you stay home, make house nice, have babies and shut up. No place for – Sharkoff's rant was interrupted by a kick to the face by Alexis, who tears into the big Russian with a fury as Referee Mel Creech calls for the bell. Alexis hits Sharkoff with strikes and chops and throws him across the ring, but he reverses and goes for a backdrop which Alexis leapfrogs and as she comes off the other rope hits a Thesz Press and starts hammering away at Sharkoff who is on dream street. She looks up at Alex and asks “You want some?” and Alex holds out his hand. Alexis picks up Sharkoff and throws him into her corner and tags in Alex. The stunned Russian is now facing a double headed attack from both Darling twins in the corner. Ricky soaring Eagle decided to try to come in and break up the 2 on 1 but is met in the middle of the ring by Danny Taylor who gives him the naughty naughty finger wiggle. That enrages Soaring Eagle who starts slugging away at Taylor but Danny matches him blow for blow. Creech makes a half-hearted attempt to get the two separated but The Kai slips around behind RSE, taps him in the shoulder, he turns, and The Kai clotheslines the Native American out of his moccasins. Danny and the Kai pitch RSE out of the ring and return to their corner. The Kai yells over to the Darlings who continue to work over Sharkoff, “Hey, Lexie. Like you said the other night, sharing is caring.” Lexie laughs and pitches Sharkoff to the opposite corner and tags in The Kai.
The Kai goes to town on the big Russian, even hitting the old Spit-punch spot in the corner. Kai throws Sharkoff into the ropes to hit TO THE SAND! But Sharkoff was able to get a hand out and Ricky Soaring Eagle charges into the ring! Ricky and The Kai go toe to toe in the middle of the ring and Soaring Eagle finally pushes The Kai into the corner.
The Wrong Corner. Kai tags in Danny Taylor who tears into RSE with a vengeance. He throws RSE into the ropes and picks him up for an Exploder Suplex. Danny tags the Kai back in and throws him into the ropes and hits the PIPELINE! The Darlings run across the ring to keep the Comrade out as The Kai covers easily for the 1-2-3!
Winners – Danny Taylor and The Kai! – Ricky Soaring Eagle and Comrade Sharkoff are eliminated.
The Darlings and Danny and The Kai share handshakes all the way around while Sharkoff and RSE begin punching away at each other. Danny and The Kai look over at the Darlings and decide to end the squabble. Alexis taps on the shoulder of Sharkoff and Danny taps on the shoulder of Ricky Soaring Eagle. The Darlings explode on Sharkoff and get him up on the turnbuckle to hit the DARLING BOMBSHELL! Meanwhile Danny and the Kai go after Ricky Soaring Eagle. Danny steps back to give the Kai room and The Kai hits a REEF BOTTOM. The Kai steps back and gestures to Danny as if saying, “your turn”. Danny picks him up for a DYNAMITE DROP! Danny turns to The Kai and shakes his hand and they both again reach out to the Darlings for another handshake and head to the back.
Russ: Another great contest marred by unsportsmanlike conduct by Soaring Eagle and Sharkoff.
Razz: These two don't get along with anybode, Russ. Not even each other.
Russ: Speaking of which, we have another one of those teams in this next contest.
Razz: Yeah, Rabbit Mask and Matt Folz have been trash talking all week about how they don't care about this, but you would have to think they're still a favorite to advance, given their competition.
Russ: Of course the alcohol-fueled Banned From Everywhere have been on quite the roll lately, but the same cannot be said for Wyatt Cox's girls.
Razz: Power and Glory just came out of a bloody war with the Darlings. This will be their first test after losing that Double Dog collar match at Hell on Earth.
Russ: It will be interesting to see if the twins can battle back from that loss to survive tonight, let's go to the ring.
Power and Glory vs Banned From Everywhere VS Matt Folz and Rabbit MaskNo music plays from the Jumbotron as Banned From Everywhere come out, although a very muffled version of Insane in the Brain can be heard from the general direction of Drunkey or Drunkette. Apparently the jackasses left the donkeys too close to the sound booth and their music must have been eaten. Regardless, Awesome Bill is atop Drunkey and drinking something that looks like PCPL from a jar, but we can't be sure. Justin Sane is atop Drunkette confused about the people offering him 500 Krona notes. They are followed by Ellie May on her Likkercycle in a freshly cleaned and pressed burlap bag.
Another Me by Jeff Hardy begins to play and Rabbit Mask and Matt Folz come out, already arguing. Well, Folz is doing most of the arguing while Rabbit Mask is mostly ignoring Folz.
Two Steps from Hell's “Fortress of Seduction” brings Wyatt Cox and Power and Glory to the ring. The twins seem more focused and confident than ever.
Power and Awesome Bill start out in this contest, and we see an early test of strength that neither combatant wins as they end up in the ropes. Power whips Bill across the ring and attempts a clothesline but he ducks and tags Justin as he comes flying off the ropes with a cross-body block. Justin takes off from the top rope but unfortunately Power kips up and hits him with a Powerslam. Power picks up Justin and hits the three rolling German Suplexes and goes for the pin but they're too close to the ropes. Power picks up Justin but all at once feels a slap on her back. Matt Folz tags in and Power frowns but leaves the ring. Folz tries to get Justin up for a Suplex but he wriggles free and hits a reverse DDT. Justin can't believe it! (Neither can anyone else) Justin rolls to his corner and tags in Awesome Bill who heads off Matt Folz at the pass with strikes and shops and winds up big for the Bionic Elbow. Rabbit Mask tries to dive in from the top rope but he finds himself on the receiving end of a MASON DIXON LINE. Bill goes to his corner, picks up Justin, and hurls him like a lawn dart at Rabbit Mask and knocks both of them out of the ring. Folz recovers enough to hit a dropkick that knocks Bill out of the ring. Power slides in and sends Folz out of the ring. As the assembled outside of the ring make it to their feet, Power and Glory climb to opposite turnbuckles and dive into the pile of humanity on the floor. Power and Glory slide into the ring and raises their hands to a surprising amount of cheers with a sprinkling of boos.
Matt Folz is first up from the pile and he picks up Awesome Bill and slams him into the ring post. He rolls him into the ring and goes to work with stomps and kicks. Bill works his way to his feet and Folz pushes him to the ropes but too close to his corner as Rabbit Mask slaps him hard. Folz turns angrily to his partner but referee Junior Hale sends him out of the ring. RM lays in the strikes and chops and picks up Awesome Bill for Head Drop #4. Bill stands up. Rabbit Mask is shocked. He lays in more chops and then picks Bill up for Head Drop #3. Bill stands up. Bill starts moving toward Rabbit Mask but he gets too close to the Power and Glory corner and Glory tags herself in and springboards off the top rope onto Rabbit Mask and fires in Chops and Strikes of her own. As Junior Hale puts Bill out of the ring Glory hits the ASIATIC SPIKE on Rabbit Mask and he goes down! Glory tags in Power, then picks up Rabbit Mask and sits him on the top turnbuckle and hits the Superplex. Power hits the Shooting Star Press and Glory rockets across the ring to level Matt Folz with a flying forearm as Power gets the pin for their team!
WINNERS – Power and Glory – Rabbit Mask and Matt Folz are eliminated.
Power and Glory celebrate but Matt Folz isn't in a celebratory mood as he starts kicking Rabbit Mask and shouting at him. He picks up Rabbit Mask for a move that will forever remain unknown as Rabbit Mast spews the White Mist. It isn't a direct hit on Folz but it's enough to send him flopping on the mat. Rabbit Mask starts to pick up his partner but he's spun around by Awesome Bill from Dawsonville. Rabbit gets right in his face and hits the White Mist...to no effect. Bill wipes some of the mist off his face and tastes it. He shakes his head and picks up Rabbit Mask for the DIRTY BIRD! Rabbit is stunned but still has enough to roll out of the ring shaking his head. Meanwhile Power and Glory tend to Matt Folz and get him up and Folz starts swinging blindly. The twins try to settle him down but that just seems to enrage him even more. Finally Power and Glory just shrug their shoulders and hit Folz with DOUBLE ELIMINATION.
Power and Glory shake hands with Awesome Bill and Justin and Wyatt breaks out a cooler of Zevia Root Beer which Justin is all over but Bill politely refuses as he reaches to Ellie for a jar of what might be PCPL. The foursome toast their victory in the center of the ring.
Russ: Well, if that don't beat all. The most sportsmanship actions of the night coming from Power and Glory.
Razz: I tell you, Russ, these two are the real deal. They're young but their feisty, and they are just starting to hit their peak. In a year or two they'll be unstoppable if they keep on this pace. You might think this is sacrilegious, but they could be the next Texpress.
Russ: Speaking of our Tag Team Champions, they're up next in the most star studded event tonight.
Razz: In this matchup, you have the Tag Team Champions Texpress, the World Champ Chris Evans teaming with the Onslaught Champ Ghosthead, and the decorated Hall of Famer Davin Moreland and newcomer DK Murphy.
Russ: The star power in this main event is huge, but there's a big question: Can the World Champion and the Onslaught Champ, the holder of the Imperial Onslaught Championship Match on demand, co-exist given the fact that if things go bad during their match, Ghosthead could cash that in on a weakened and damaged Evans.
Razz: Great point, Russ. This man Ghosthead used the deadly Black Mist against his own brother to win the Imperial Onslaught. If he'd do that to blood, what would he to to Evans just to take that Championship.
Russ: Great point, Razz. Let's go to the ring.
Texpress vs Davin Moreland and DK Murphy vs Chris Evans and GhostheadNotorious fires up and brings out the Grand Slam winner Davin Moreland and the rookie DK Murphy. Both pander incessantly to the crowd. Murphy out of the novelty of it all and Moreland, well, just because.
Big & Rich's
"Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" brings out the OOWF Tag Team Champions Texpress. The Texans are all ready to make a run at adding the one crown this team has never won.
Iron Maiden's The Trooper brings the OOWF World Champion Chris Evans to the ring along with his partner Ghosthead. This team has already had a ton of conflict run through it, and their actions as they come down the ramp show no indications of diminishing as Evans continues to preen and Ghosthead continues to just walk the walk.
Senior referee Davis Hightower will have his hands full in this matchup which starts with DK Murphy and Chad Madison. The rookie locks up with Chad, backs the Texan into the ropes, whips him across the ring, goes for a clothesline but Chad ducks, comes off the far ropes with a flying press that levels the rookie and gets a one count. Chad picks up Murphy and tosses him into the neutral corner, tags in Zane, and whips Zane into the corner for the splash on Murphy. Zane throws Murphy into the opposite corner, but in that corner are Evans and Ghosthead. Evans reaches into chop Murphy across the chest, and referee Hightower calls that a legal tag. Evans briefly protests but gets into the ring. It's classic Run DLP as the Texans and Moreland frustrate Evans and Ghosthead with their fluid tag team maneuvers. Eventually Ghosthead catches Chad with a Facebuster which turns the tide. Ghosthead and Evans isolate Chad and work him over in their corner with surprising teamwork. Ghosthead tries to get Chad up for the Night Terror but Chad reverses it into a DDT of his own! Chad slowly crawls his way toward Moreland to get the tag but instead it's DK Murphy who tags in! The rookie comes in all house o'fire on Ghosthead and Evans but the wily veteran in the corner takes advantage and hits the Greco-Roman eye poke on Murphy. Blinded, DK walkd into a Spinebuster. Ghosthead goes to pick up Murphy for Phantasmagoria, but he's too close to his own corner and Evans tags himself in. He picks up the rookie, casually lifts him for the LETHAL VORTEX! Evans struts around the ring and taunts Moreland, then picks up Murphy for the WAY OF THE FUTURE. Evans laughs and points at Moreland and says that he'll be next. Evans then picks up Murphy for another WAY OF THE FUTURE as Moreland tries to come in and stop it, but Ghosthead runs in and cuts Moreland off and whips him into the Texpress corner where Zane and Chad were starting to come in, knocking the Texans to the concrete and knocking the Grand Slam Winner on his award-winning ass. Evans laughs at the spectacle, places his foot on Murphy's chest, and Hightower counts to three.
WINNER – Chris Evans and Ghosthead – DK Murphy and Davin Moreland are eliminated
The fans are booing like crazy as Moreland and Texpress are checking on DK Murphy. Chad calls to the back for a trainer to check out Murphy, and Evans and Ghosthead work their way to the back to the jeers of the crowd.
Razz: Off the hook, Russ!
Russ: A typical Evans way out, taking out the weaker of the opponents, and in the process removing Davin Moreland from the competition.
Razz: Hey, Russ. It's survival of the fittest. It's too bad the new kid had to get hurt like that, but in this business it happens.
Russ: Folks, up next is the Postgame Show and we'll review the 8 teams remaining in the Tag Team Invitational, along with next week's matchups. For Razz, I'm Russ, thanks for tuning in.
